Connection of Lives

This illustration by artist Yann Kebbi was published with The Times Book Review article, “Arundhati Roy’s Return to the Form That Made Her Famous,” published June 9, 2017.

Arundhati Roy’s first novel, “The God of Small Things,” was a commercial and critical sensation. Her new book, “The Ministry of Utmost Happiness,” was her first in 20 years. Book reviewer Karan Mahajan writes, “Set in India in the present decade (with back stories extending into the 1950s), it is a novel about social and political outcasts who come together in response to state-sponsored violence.”

Artist Yann Kebbi lives in Paris. He has been commissioned by American and European broadsheets, such as The New York Times, The Guardian and Libération. He works regularly with The New Yorker and Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin. In addition to his editorial and design work, he collaborates on small publishing projects for the independent publisher 3 Fois Par Jour. He has also written and illustrated his own children’s book, “Americanin un Chien à New York,” and a graphic novel with Viken Berberian, “The Structure Is Rotten, Comrade.” He regularly exhibits his work, and sells original drawings, etchings and prints.
